Authentic excursions

At Arabian Adventures, we pride ourselves on delivering desert experiences that truly capture the essence of the region. Our desert tours are designed by local experts, offering an immersive journey through the local culture, landscapes and traditions. Each of our experiences is crafted to provide an authentic and unforgettable encounter with the magic of the Dubai desert and heritage sites.

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) is the stunning setting for many of our desert experiences and activities. This vast expanse of rolling red sand dunes covers an area of 225 square kilometres and is just a 45-minute drive from downtown Dubai. The striking landscapes of the DDCR are home to incredible native animals and plants, making it a fascinating destination.

Sustainable practices

Sustainability and eco-friendly practices are at the centre of our desert experiences. We run zero plastic initiatives, extensive quarterly clean-ups, and have placed recycling points throughout the DDCR. We have dedicated staff focusing on sustainability and animal welfare, and we were the UAE’s inaugural recipient of the prestigious Travelife Partner sustainability award.

Dubai Desert Experiences: Frequently asked questions

What time is sunset in the Dubai desert?

The time of the sunset in the Dubai desert varies depending on the time of the year.

In the summer months from June to August the sun will set around 7pm. In the peak of winter in January, it can set around 5:45pm.

Excursions like our Veuve Clicquot Desert Experience and our Exclusive Desert Experience will be tailored to allow you to enjoy picturesque sunset stops - whatever the time of year.

Where can I ride a camel in Dubai?

You can ride a camel in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) when you book with Arabian Adventures.

Our camel ride experience includes a private or shared transfer to and from Dubai.

You’ll enjoy two 45-minute camel ride sessions on an Arabian camel – with the second return trek being optional – as well as a stop to eat breakfast and watch the morning sun over the desert.

What is a wadi?

A wadi is an Arabic term for a riverbed or valley that only contains water after heavy rainfall. Wadis are found in desert regions across North Africa and the Middle East, with many located close to Dubai.

Our Wadi Adventure takes you on a memorable journey to see famous wadis like Wadi Helo and Wadi Shawka Pools in the Hajar Mountains of Sharjah, as well as the famous Fossil Rock.

You’ll visit the fascinating Buhais Geology Park and Mleiha Archaeological Centre too, where you’ll learn more about the UAE’s wadis, caves and archaeological sites.

How can I learn about the Dubai desert?

We believe that the best way to learn about the Dubai desert lifestyle is to live it.

Our Overnight School Safari is a complete desert experience which allows students to enjoy a carefully curated evening of activities before spending a night in a tent.

The experience includes a guided tour of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) Visitor Centre, a one-hour wildlife safari accompanied by a qualified guide and a desert heritage session which offers an insight into Bedouin life.

With tent building and a survival skill session too, this experience is the perfect way to gain an understanding of the desert and its inhabitants.
